Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) Selfie & Wefie Photo Contest 2015

Indah Water Konsortium or IWK for short have been establish and kick the game since 1994, a good 21 years and still going strong. For those who do not know, other more advanced countries such as Japan, the United States, Australia and even Dubai have a very high cost of clean water treatment compared to us in Malaysia. In average, the payment cost we pay to Indah Water Konsortium as a normal household user is only RM8 per month! That’s pretty low, for clean water.
Indah Water Konsortium Sdn Bhd (IWK) is our national sewerage company, a wholly owned government company given the task to build and ensure our sewerage system is up and running, modern and efficient for all Malaysians. We rarely appreciate these, not until it’s being brought to our attention.
This month, the whole of December 2015, from 1st to 28th December, Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) is currently hosting a Selfie & Wefie Photo Contest 2015. 29th April 1975, the last day of the Vietnam war, a nine year old boy jumped onto a leaking prawn trawler on Saigon River with a box of dried biscuits and some seasick pills and managed to survive thirst and hunger to cheat death to become one of the first Vietnamese boat people to land in Australia. His movies include The Wogboy, Fat Pizza, True Love and Chaos, Broken Hill and Sensitive New Age Killer.Hung is a favourite at Montreal Comedy Festival, Edinburgh Festival and Melbourne International Comedy Festival. An author, musician, clown, actor and all round song and dance man…Hung’s stand up work and theatre shows are always edgy, satirical, political and his musical send ups go straight for the jocular. His first book ‘The Yellow Peril From Sin City’ was released through Penguin.

His second, a children’s book ‘BarryNoodles & DaKillerBs’ is with Random House. A constant on the world festival stage and TV since 1988, Hung has made documentaries for the ABC, SBS, Discovery Channel. TV includes CNN, MTV, The Muppet Show, Wow Wow[Japan], London Weekend Television and all throughout Asia.“We used to live across the road from the Presidential Palace, which in the 70s in Saigon was a really stupid place to live. They say Vietnam brought the war into people’s living rooms…yeah, you’re telling me, and we didn’t even have a TV.One side of our front yard was a statue of the Buddha that my father, Le Thanh Nhon, made. He was Vietnam’s most famous artist.

At the end of

the war, the communists smashed all his work but they didn’t touch his Buddha because there’s an old Buddhist saying; KARMA SUITS YA.

We left Vietnam 29th April 1975. We had 3 hours to leave, so quickly we packed our bags, loaded the car, fed the dog…to granny, and fanged it down to the dock. There would’ve been heaps more of us except, at the same time, Hollywood released JAWS. And that, my friends is why ‘CHARLIE DON’T SURF!”

Tamer began his comedy career in Los Angeles and New York, but very quickly began to tour internationally. His over-seas experiences include two tours for the troops in Afghanistan, performing at The famous Falaki theatre at the American University in Cairo during the Egyptian revolution and the Edinburgh fringe in Scotland, where he received three 4 star reviews from international press. Towards the end of 2013, he moved to London for 1 year (following the path of his two biggest comedic influences, Patrice O’Neal and Bill Hicks). Tamer was most recently featured on Seth Rogen’s Hilarity for Charity event with Todd Glass and Hannibal Buress and has TV & Radio credits on BBC and SkyTV in the UK as well as in the U.S. on Fox, HULU, HGTV and TRU TV.

Tamer Kattan was born an outsider and that’s where he stayed. This Egyptian-born American was born into a family of Muslims, Christians and Jews, leaving him incredibly comfortable in the uncomfortable. From school yard bullies to an abusive father, comedy quickly became a weapon of this underdog. An award winning international comedian with TV and commercial credits in the United States and UK, Tamer has a deep understanding of the human condition. A regular at the Comedy Store, Improv and Laugh Factory in Los Angeles. This is one comic you do not want to miss live.

Jonathan Atherton (Australia)

Synopsis
Jonathan Atherton is one of Australia’s finest stand-up comedians. He is also an actor, television presenter, voice artist, screen writer and award winning photographer.

A love of culture and adventure drew him away from the staid corridors of academia and into the heart of the third world. He spent most of the 80’s travelling through Asia and Africa where he worked as tour guide, salvage diver, teacher, set builder, photographer, restaurateur and actor.

In Thailand in 1991 he was run over by a truck and evacuated to Australia where he spent over a year in traction, fighting gangrene, antibiotic resistant infection and the devastating effects of 17 compound fractures to his legs, arms and spine. He underwent a dozen major operations. But he never lost his sense of humour.

In fact the stories he brought back from his prolific travels formed the nucleus of his initial comedy performances. While still in plaster he was coaxed on stage by a cabaret singer who maintained that his poignantly hilarious anecdotes were funnier than the diatribe of the professional comedians who worked at the club where she performed.

After just one appearance in 1993 at the Sit Down Comedy Club in Brisbane, Australia, he was hooked on the art of stand-up comedy… despite a temporary inability to actually stand up without the aid of crutches! With a bag of stories and a keen insight into the human condition, he honed his comedy skills touring that vast continent, dispensing laughter wherever he went.

He speaks a multitude of languages – Indonesian, Malay, Thai, Japanese, Swahili, Luganda, and German… and has a passing knowledge of Burmese Tagalog, Lao, Hindi, Batak, Urdu, Arabic, Hokkien and Mandarin.

More important than language, says Atherton, is an ability to comprehend discourse strategies and social boundaries. In this sense he is at home anywhere on the planet.

So I have few media passes for this show. Any idea how should I do giveaway? Through my Instagram or my blog? Let’s make it simple shall we?

weBoost, Solution to most of smart phone user problem + Giveaway

When you talk about Malaysia smart phone user problem, it is either the battery life or the telecommunications coverage. Afraid not, thank you to weBoost Malaysia because now we have the solution.
A few weeks ago, I was invited to attend the weBoost official launch. What caught my attention is weBoost have the answer and solution to most of Malaysian smart phone user problem.
I’m doing photography and videography for living more than 5 years, CVS Production. One of the main issues is I have to travel around and at the same time to get connected with my colleague either in Malaysia or Jakarta. I always depend on google maps to help me in the direction and my Bluetooth Jabra for the headphone. As you can see, I really need to maintain my battery life, data and telecommunications signals. As what we know, when you use map navigation on your mobile and Bluetooth at the same time, it will drain your battery life and the worst part is when you accidentally took the wrong turn because of a weak telecommunications signal. With weBoost, I don’t need to worry anymore.
Basically, it’s really simple to install weBoost Drive 3G-S. I even install it less than 5 minutes.
I have been using weBoost Drive 3G‐S for more than a week and what can I say, weBoost Drive 3G‐S will help extends the range where a call be made, which virtually eliminates areas of poor coverage, providing more consistent and reliable service. It also helps to boost voice and data signals for 2G and 3G, and works with all cellular carriers.

If you prefer to have your car cleaned without so many wires, etc like me, don’t worry. With the new system, weBoost manage to make it as simple as possible. They only have 2 cables; one for the antenna and another for the power. Can you imagine that when used in weak signal areas, both products can provide as much as 3 hours of additional talk time, or 20 percent better battery life.

What is weBoost?
weBoost, and its parent company, Wilson Electronics, LLC, are leaders in the wireless communications industry, and have designed and manufactured cellular signal boosters, antennas and related components for more than 20 years.

For more information, visit: https://www.weboost.com/my/
This is the best part. I would like to thank weBoost Malaysia for giving me an extra unit of weBoost Drive 3G-S worth RM389 to my lucky readers.

How to win yourself?
1) Follow my Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
2) Answer the following question and leave the answer in this blog post (answer can be in Bahasa or in English.).
3) Don’t forget to write down your email as well for me to contact you if you are the winner.
4) Question 1: What is the weBoost device name for the vehicle use?
5) Question 2: Tell me 2 key benefits of the device.
6) Question 3: Tell me why you deserve to walk away with the device?

The winner will be chosen based on the correct and creative answer.

Contest ends on 4th December 2014 (10PM). I will announce the winner on my Facebook page (5th December 2014, 10PM).

The 1st International Culinology® Bachelor Degree at Taylor’s University

School of Hospitality, Tourism - Bachelor of Science (Hons) (Culinology) 2012

2 weeks ago, I had the opportunity to attend the new course briefing from Taylor’s University and they introduced us to Culinology®. It was during the Taylor’s University open day Culinology® in Action event and I managed to understand more about Culinology®. Culinology® is currently offered in Taylor’s University.

We had Dr. Benjamin Wong, a lecturer who’s teaching the first batch of Culinology® students, explaining about the course and its’ history in details.

_MG_1665

I reached kinda early and I saw quite a number of parents and their children who are interested to gain more knowledge about this course. If you think that food is all about to make your tummy full, you are wrong. Especially when it comes to commercials.
_MG_1667

What is Culinology®?
Basically it is a combination of culinary arts, technology and science. Imagine every single gram of food/nutrition are counted? A Culinologists® is a chef who can cook and understand the science behind mass production of food and would eventually work hand-in-hand with food scientist to produce a product.

The term ‘Culinology®’ was coined by the U.S. based Research Chefs Association(RCA). Founded in 1996 by a group of research chefs working in the food product development industry, the association has witnessed the growing trend for professional chefs to become intimately involved in the research and development process. Traditionally, it was food scientists who have been at the forefront of developing new products for the mass market, with a focus on food preservation and commercialisation.

Job opportunities?
Graduates can be called a Culinologists®, and have the option to work as as Chef Consultant, R&D Manager or R&D Chef, Hygiene Consultant, Quality Manager, Sensorial Analysis Manager, Corporate Chef, Corporate Executive Chef, Test Kitchen Chef and other similar positions in the food industry

_MG_1676
After the briefing, we had the opportunity to witness Culinology® in Action, Chef Sharizan made mayonnaise by mixing egg yolk with oil. For me, I still prefer the normal mayonnaise that sold at the shop. Nicer lol. At 1st, their attempt failed because they did not use the right amounts of ingredients. The 2nd time, it turned out good. It’s proven that to produce a perfect product, a combination of culinary arts, technology & science will help a lot.
_MG_1681

Bachelor of Science (Hons) Culinology®:
The Culinology® programme offered at Taylor’s University is the first complete Culinology® degree to be offered outside the USA. It is not a transfer programme where students study few years in Malaysia and must then transfer to a foreign university. The entire programme is conducted at Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus. It is offered under Taylor’s University School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts (TCHT) One must possess an interest in Chemistry to pursue the programme. It is a three year programme with two internships. Students will need to be in the kitchen and the lab and need to produce a real product by the end of their studies.

5) What is the difference between Taylor’s University Bachelor of Science (Hons) Culinology® and Taylor’s University’s Bachelor of Science (Hons) (Food Science & Nutrition)?
The Bachelor of Science (Food Science & Nutrition) is a pure science stream programme that has been designed to train food scientists who are able to conduct research on food and food components. Graduates from the Bachelor of Science (Hons )(Food Science & Nutrition) are not meant to create new recipes for new food product. They are usually employed by food companies to assist in processing and mass producing the recipes created by the graduates of Culinology® employed as R&D chefs. A look at the subjects offered help to understand the differences between the two programmes.
6) As a student, can I become a member of the Research Chefs Association (RCA)?
Yes. Once you enrol into the Culinology® programme, you will automatically become member of the RCA. You will enjoy all the benefits as a member, which include full access to the RCA website, receiving RCA newsletter and magazines, etc.
7) When I graduate, will I become a Culinologist®?
Yes, you will. You will be able to give yourself the title of Culinologist® or R&D Chef which is more commonly used in the food industry. Different countries sometimes have different designations for R&D chefs. The title Research Chef is, for example, the most common one. After a few years of working experience, students who graduated from a Culinology® programme can choose to sit for a test to become a certified culinologist. The certification is rewarded to professionals who have acquired a strong expertise throughout their working experience, entitling them to be recognised as certified Culinologist. Graduates from the Culinology® degree need a minimum of five years working experience to be eligible to sit for the certification test. For further information on the certification, visit the RCA website at http://www.culinology.com/certification.
8) Is there a promising career for a Culinologist®?
The food industry is one of the largest industries in the world and an industry that is most unlikely to disappear. The need of processed food is constantly increasing with a demand for a global market that is increasingly looking for convenience foods, and spending less and less time cooking. Moreover, many modern health concerns force food manufacturers to create new products with lower sugar content, sodium content, fat content, etc. The food industry is highly competitive, forcing many companies to look out for experts who are able to assist them in creating new food products to meet the ever-changing market demands, that can be mass produced at the most affordable price.
