Kedai Rakyat 1 Malaysia at Kelana Jaya LRT Station
My friend told me last week that MYDIN came out with new store. Kedai Rakyat 1 Malaysia. The first thing that came out in my mind is politic. I went to Kedai Rakyat 1 Malaysia last Friday to see how good it is. For me, I do not really care about politic as long public will gain benefit.
Kedai Rakyat 1 Malaysia basically is a shop operating on a mini market format, which provides various basic necessities at low prices. This initiative was inspired by our Prime Minister YAB Dato Sri Najib Tun Razak on his concerns for the low income citizens located in the urban areas.
Since launched on 22 June 2011, I never been to the Kelana Jaya outlet even though I always pass by when I need to take the LRT. I believe that the existence of Kedai Rakyat 1 Malaysia will also act as the medium for the Government to control prices and lessens the monopolization of products which has long been dominated by the multinational manufacturers.
If you wondering why the concept is similar with MYDIN, because it is the operator for Kedai Rakyat 1 Malaysia. Kedai Rakyat 1 Malaysia will give emphasis on products manufactured by Small and Medium Entrepreneurs, hence acting as a platform for the government’s continuous support to increase, enhance and expand SMEs products manufacturing capacity as well as sales.
– Stesen LRT Kelana Jaya, KJ14 Damansara – Puchong Highway (7am till 11pm)
– Jalan 6/27A, Section 4, 53300 Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur (7am-11pm)
– No.3, Tingkat Bawah, Blok B, Kuarters DBKL Pantai Permai, Pantai Dalam, KL (7am-11pm)
– Kementerian Perdagangan Dalam Negeri, Koperasi & Kepenggunaan, No.13, Persiaran Perdana Presint 2, Putrajaya KL (7am-11pm)
Most of the items are packaged in smaller pack size to ensure the low income consumers can still buy according to their needs and within their means. Amongst the smaller pack sizes for example are 1kg rice, 100gm curry powder, baby diapers, etc.
I bought creamer and cocktail. It is slightly cheaper than other brand and the quality is not really bad. I do not mind to buy cheaper brand/product especially when the packaging kinda ugly as long the quality is not really bad. Sometime the expensive brand/product is not always good.
Looking back at the marketing point of view, this 1 Malaysia brand offer slightly cheaper price compare than other brand because of few factors. Not only because of the quality is not really good but it is cheaper because of few things such as shop, support by government, subsidies, etc.
Some people said the quality is drop. From my own opinion, the aluminium that they used is a little bit low quality. I believe that they cut cost on the material quality. Check out the milk can at the top left side.
Not only the 1 Malaysia shop offer a low price, but other brand as well. I bought yeos only at RM1 where other stall offer RM1.60 per can. In the end, what matters for us is this collaboration project between the Government and MYDIN will benefit and reduce the burden of the Malaysian citizen, particularly the urban low-income earners.
