I told myself that I will at least workout 30min – 2 hour at every early in the morning. I used to workout Crossfit and weightlifting 1 hour a day and consistently for almost a year. I was really skinny back then and I would say I manage to get ideal body (with the help of whey protein). However, one year ago, I had an accident when I was in Langkawi for a month. Due to the accident, I could not able to walk for more than 3 months. To make it worst, I gain so much weight due to an unhealthy lifestyle. Now, I’ve totally been recovering and I will try my best to work out at least 30min-2 hour a day. Not to mention my big day will be at the end of the year.
Recently I joined Nestle Omega Plus Walk-A-Mile 2016 at Lake Garden Kuala Lumpur and I totally love it. Actually, I was prepared for some run, then only I realize it is walking event hahaha… One thing for sure, I was so excited because this is my 1st event walk/run hehehe usually I just run on the treadmill.
Do you know that it would take, on average, 1 hour and 43 minutes of walking to burn off a 540-calorie Big Mac.
OMG!!! I just found out this is the 15th event organized by #YayasanJantungMalaysia. It was a fun experience. Thank you #NestleOmegaPlus for organizing #WalkAMile2016. I’m looking forward to next year’s event.
It is important to provide energy throughout our day. A bowl of cereal and 2 cups milk Nestle Omega Plus ® is sufficient to stay energized all day long!
Do you know how important it is to take care of your health?
Every 15 minutes, there is one death caused by heart disease in Malaysia. Although many Malaysians are aware that heart disease is the number one killer in Malaysia, many of us tend to wait until later to address our heart health under the perception that heart disease only affects the elderly. However, research has proven that Malaysians in their thirties have ageing arteries similar to people in their seventies due to their lifestyles. The truth is that Malaysians need to take care of their heart health now instead of later.
There’s plenty of activity were provided by Nestlé Omega Plus® for participants. Not to mention free flow Nestle Omega with cereals and of course Milo. I was very pleased with the activities organized. The most exciting activity is Zumba.
This year marks the 15th year that Nestlé Omega Plus® has organised the annual Walk-A-Mile (WAM) event, in collaboration with Yayasan Jantung Malaysia (YJM). WAM is the longest-running event for heart health advocacy in this country.
“As Malaysia’s heart health advocate, we truly believe that your heart is in your own hands. Heart disease does not happen overnight but through years of living with these habitual risk factors. But the good news is that you could save a life in as little as 15 minutes as brisk walking reduces the risk of high cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes,” said Chew Soi Ping, Executive Director, Sales, Nestlé (Malaysia) Berhad, in his welcome speech at the event.
Chew Soi Ping also presented a cheque from Nestlé Omega Plus® totalling RM30,000 to Yayasan Jantung Malaysia (YJM) towards the continuous support on the efforts and dedication of YJM to educate the public on heart health matters.
I was never given an opportunity to stay in longhouse before and it is my pleasure to stay in Awana Genting Highlands Longhouse during the My Selangor Story 2011 trip. I had already expected that we will be staying in Golden Palm Tree Resort and Spaduring the trip.
Basically, longhouse is common in Sabah and Sarawak especially in the Southeast Asian island of Borneo. It is a traditional building that is also known as “Rumah panjang” in Malay. We are so lucky because we had a modern longhouse. The differences between the modern and traditional can be distinguished by the material they used to build but they still have similar designs.
For those of you who love to surf the net 24/7 won’t be able to do so while you’re there, they do not provide internet connection. Not only that, electric socket is limited so please bring extension cord for a power plug on your own.
The rental for the campsite-longhouse is RM1400 per night for 40 people and below and RM35 per person for 41 people and above. It is a suitable venue to host group activities or high school trips.
*Tips: For those who need to use internet connection, please bring your smartphone. You can use WiFi – Hotspot features in your phone and make it as WiFi. Please make sure you have a data plan.
During the tour, I use The Cube as my internet connection. Will explain futher in another separate post.
In Awana Genting Highlands Longhouse, they have 4 rooms in total. Each room can fit up to 10 people. It comes with very basic amenities but it is comfortable. Each of us are given 1 pillow, 1 mattress, 1 blanket, 1 towel and 1 big table to be shared. Since the it is located in Awana Genting Highlands, they provide us thick blankets and most importantly, amenities that were provided was clean. Please take note that they do not have any electric socket in the room.
Looking at this room condition, it reminded me of my favourite novel titled, “Children of the Longhouse” (Puffin Novel). Here’s how the story goes, kids are divided into separate rooms where they need to share with other kids once they have reached the age of 12.
If you have a nature call, this is the place where you should head to. Located nearby the longhouse (500m), there’s a complete toilet and shower room. Do not worry if you need to go toilet in the middle of night because there will be a spotlight to light up your way. I woke up at 3 in the morning to go to the toilet and I thought it was 6am since it was kinda bright.
If you see the red color cloth it is a female toilet. The toilet is really basic and clean. Same as “kampung” toilet but it is quite modern where they have a flush. It is a seated toilet and there is 4 toilets in total.
This is the shower room. Consist 4 small shower room and it is a basic shower room. They have a water heater and shower of course. The water heater will take some time to heat up the water. Please make sure you bring you own toilet amenities such as soap and toothpaste.
The weather is perfect during afternoon and evening. The temperature is varies around 14-20 degree celcius. It is not too cold and not too hot. For your information, please bring along a blanket or at least sweater during night and early morning because the temperature can easily go as low as 10 degree celcius.
In conclusion, for those who are interested to organize team building activities especially for a school or cooperate event, Awana Genting Highlands would be a perfect place.
During our visit, there are a bunch of medical NGO who camped around Awana Genting Highlands Longhouse. Medical NGO from different states took part in the event.
