15Malaysia is a short film project. It consists of 15 short films made by 15 Malaysian filmmakers. These films not only deal with socio-political issues in Malaysia, they also feature some of the best-known faces in the country, including actors, musicians and top political leaders. You may think of them as funky little films made by 15 Malaysian voices for the people of Malaysia.

They won’t charge a cent.

Pete Teo is a multiple award winning singer songwriter based in Malaysia. He tours the East Asian region regularly and his work has been featured on the BBC world service, the National Public Radio [USA], Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, KBS [South Korea] and NHK [Japan]. Pete is also a sought after actor in what has become known internationally as ‘Malaysian New Wave’ cinema.

Films he has worked on have competed, won awards or been screened in film festivals worldwide including Venice, Cannes, Tokyo, Rotterdam, Busan, Marrakech, Toronto, Hong Kong and Nantes. In 2008, he produced an anti-racism music video project entitled ‘Malaysian Artistes For Unity’ [MAFU] that became a national popular culture phenomenon.

The zero-budget project featured more than 52 prominent Malaysians and has to date been seen or heard by more than 10 million Malaysians. A famous workaholic, Pete worked on 2 film scores, released a top selling original soundtrack album, acted in 2 films, built a new personal recording studio and produced the 15Malaysia project all within the first six months of 2009. He is currently writing his new album.

A man finds himself without small change in a cheap brothel. Many arguments ensue and problems faced by the Malaysian common man are discussed humorously.

#5 Lollipop
A haunting portrayal of a pedophile preparing to hunt, interspersed with metaphors on the state of Malaysian politics.

#6 Rojak
A Rojak seller’s take on Malaysia’s multi-faceted social political tapestry. Made entirely with CGI special effects. Visually stunning.

#7 The Son
A teenage Chinese witness to a racially motivated assault is being driven to the police station. A quiet reminder of the dangers of inter-communal suspicion and conflict.

#8 Lumpur
A modern, poetic and beautifully constructed ode to Malaysia – its common people, places and enduring spirit.

An edgy and powerful science fiction story of a society where everything is perfect, except no one is allowed to speak.

#10 Slovak Sling
A comedic re-enactment of how one politician tries to entice another to switch party allegiance as DVD pirates look on.

Two secret lovers rendezvous in a plush hotel room while TV news is read in the background. A dark take on apathy in Malaysia.

#15 Halal
A very silly slapstick comedy demonstrating the proper Islamic way to slaughter chicken.
